Service Description

Tracking Foundations Workshop ๐Ÿพ Friday 18th September 2026 | 10am - 1pm Discover just how much your dog can do with their nose! Our Tracking Foundations Workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as dogs and handlers who have already started tracking and would like to develop their foundation skills. Tracking teaches your dog to follow the trail left behind by a person, using scent and ground disturbance to work out where they have travelled. It gives dogs the opportunity to take the lead, make decisions and work independently while you learn to read and support them from the other end of the line. What we'll cover During the three-hour workshop, we'll work with each dog at an appropriate level, covering: ๐Ÿพ Getting your dog started and motivated to follow a track ๐Ÿพ Building commitment and confidence on the track ๐Ÿพ Tracking line handling and supporting your dog without interfering ๐Ÿพ Learning to read changes in your dog's body language ๐Ÿพ Developing focus and independent problem-solving ๐Ÿพ Progressing the length and difficulty of tracks when your dog is ready ๐Ÿพ Introducing articles or โ€œevidenceโ€ for your dog to find and indicate along the way Never tried tracking before? You're absolutely welcome! No previous tracking experience is needed. We'll begin with simple, achievable exercises and show you and your dog how tracking works from the very beginning. If you've already started tracking, we'll look at where you are as a team and help you strengthen your foundations and progress your tracks. Why try tracking? Tracking is fantastic mental and physical enrichment. It allows dogs to use one of their most powerful natural abilities while developing concentration, confidence and independence. It can be particularly rewarding for busy, high-drive, nervous or reactive dogs, as the work is purposeful, methodical and focused. And for the handler, there's something quite special about learning to trust your dog and recognising those subtle changes that tell you, โ€œI've got the track.โ€ Three hours of nose-down, thoughtful teamwork - and probably one very satisfied dog afterwards! ๐Ÿพ ๐Ÿ“… Friday 18th September 2026 โฐ 10amโ€“1pm ๐Ÿ“ Carmarthen Showground ๐ŸŽ“ Complete beginners & foundation teams welcome Places are limited to allow plenty of individual working time for each dog and handler.
