Sniffer Dogs Foundation Class - 6 Week Course Unlock your dog’s natural scenting abilities with our Sniffer Dogs Foundation Class. This 6-week course is designed to introduce you and your dog to the fundamentals of scent detection in a fun and engaging way. Whether you’re looking to stimulate your dog’s mind, explore the world of scent work as a new activity, or lay the groundwork for future participation in scent sports or detection competitions, this foundation class is the perfect starting point. Course Overview During this 6-week foundation class, you and your dog will focus on developing essential scent detection skills, including: Target Odour: Introducing your dog to a specific scent (RED Kong) and teaching them to recognise and target that odour. Pairing the Scent: Using positive reinforcement to associate the target odour with rewards, ensuring your dog understands the task. Search Patterns: Developing basic search strategies to help your dog effectively locate the target scent in various environments. Indication: Training your dog to give a clear signal when they successfully locate the target scent, creating a reliable alert system. Handler Techniques: Improving your ability to support your dog’s scenting efforts and read their cues during the search. By the end of the course, your dog will have a solid foundation in scent detection, ready to progress to more advanced levels or to participate in scent sports or detection competitions. Eligibility This foundation class is open to all dogs, regardless of breed or age. No prior obedience training is necessary. PLEASE FEED YOUR DOG OUT OF A RED KONG EVERYDAY FOR A WEEK PRIOR TO STARTING THE COURSE. What to Bring Flat Collar or Harness Lead: Non-retractable, no slip leads. RED Kong: Required for the target odour work. High-Value Treats: Your dog’s favourite treats to reinforce positive behaviour during training. Toy or Reward: Your dog’s favourite toy or reward item to use during training. Dog Bowl & Water Poo Bags Class Guidelines Water and Bowl: Please bring your own. Leads: Keep your dog on lead at all times within the grounds. Designated Walking Area: Walk dogs on lead only in the designated area. Clean Up: Please clean up after your dog and use the provided bins or take poo bags with you. Behavioural Concerns: If your dog barks or lunges at other dogs or people, please contact us to discuss 1-2-1 training to prepare them for the class environment.
