Kennel Club Good Citizen Advanced Class - 7 Week Course Our Kennel Club Good Citizen Advanced Class offers training at the Silver/Gold level of the Kennel Club Good Citizen Dog Scheme (KCGCDS). This course is a natural progression from the Bronze level, focusing on advancing practical dog training skills and introducing new concepts. It provides handlers with a comprehensive understanding of how to train and refine their canine companion's behaviour. Eligibility Participants need to have passed the KCGC Bronze Award. Course Overview Over the 7-week course, we cover: Play & Engagement: Enhancing interaction and maintaining focus between you and your dog. Road Walking: Ensuring safe and controlled walks near traffic, promoting calmness in busy environments. Off-Lead Heelwork: Teaching your dog to walk closely beside you without a lead, even with distractions. Recall Away From Distractions: Strengthening your dog’s recall in challenging environments, ensuring reliable responses. Send to Bed: Training your dog to go to a designated spot or bed on command. Stopping Your Dog: Teaching reliable stop commands for enhanced safety in various situations. Food Manners: Promoting patience and good behaviour around food, preventing begging or stealing. 2 Minute Stays: Building your dog's patience and control by extending their stay duration. Handling and Examination by a Stranger: Preparing your dog to be comfortably handled and examined by others, reducing stress in social and veterinary settings. And more... What to Bring Flat Collar or Harness Lead: Non-retractable, no slip leads. Treats: A selection of your dog's favourite treats (moist treats like sausages work best). Toy: Your dog’s favourite toy. Dog Bowl & Water Poo Bags Mat/Bed: For your dog to settle on. Note: Perfect Fit Harnesses, Training Leads, Toys, and Treats are available for purchase at the training venue. Class Guidelines Water and Bowl: Please bring your own. Attendance: Only registered dogs may attend. Leads: Keep your dog on lead at all times within the grounds. Designated Walking Area: Walk dogs on lead only in the designated area. Clean Up: Please clean up after your dog and use the provided bins or take poo bags with you. Behavioural Concerns: If your dog barks or lunges at other dogs or people, please contact us to discuss 1-2-1 training to prepare them for the class environment.
