Service Description

This 3 hour workshop is suitable to those at any level, whether just starting out or those looking to compliment their training, and on any legal odour. The workshop will be split into 2 groups and will spend time with both Jenny Richards and Jo Dyer separately who will go over key foundations to detection training as well as giving a good insight into the Detection Dog Trials. Detection Dog Trials (DDT) are based on an operational search, and use ‘real life’ type search areas. The aim of these trials are to compliment your training plan and as such it is not a timed search where the fastest find wins, you have a maximum time ( 5 minutes for a Prelim search) in which to search, and all the scoring is based on the teamwork between you and your dog. Each of the 10 areas of scoring is based on the foundations needed for scentwork, with constructive feedback given in order for you to then work on if needed. The trials encourage the beautiful partnership between dog and handler working as a team. Due to the operational style of these trials, competitors can work on whatever odour their dog is imprinted on, there is no stipulation on just one odour for the trial. The majority of dogs work on clove, but gun oil and kong are also popular. Any legal odour can be used in the trial, and in Prelim even tennis ball is allowed as it is the first step in building the young dogs confidence in searching varied environments. You do not need to be a member to compete, but there is the opportunity to qualify for Championships and be part of an International league if you decide to join as a member. Detection Dog Trials will be available to book in the afternoon here:
